About Us
Meet Margaret and Chuck Allen, the dynamic duo behind Buddy's Market, a haven for fresh produce and local goods nestled in Seneca, South Carolina. Both hailing from the scenic upstate region, Margaret's roots trace back to Easley High School and Clemson University, while Chuck boasts ties to Spartanburg and a degree from NC State University after a stint at the University of South Carolina. Their shared love for competition and culinary exploration drove them from the hills of South Carolina to the vibrant flavors of New Orleans, where Cajun cuisine ignited their senses.
But amidst their culinary adventures, something tugged at their hearts when they returned to Seneca in 2021—the same vacant store that Margaret had eyed years ago on old Clemson Highway. With determination and a passion for bringing fresh, local produce to their community, they embarked on a journey to turn that vacant space into something extraordinary.
Margaret's lineage is steeped in farming tradition, dating back to her grandfather Andrew Jackson Ballard's homestead in Pelzer, SC, established in 1911. Through the trials of the Depression, her family persevered, tilling the land, tending to livestock, and nurturing each other through hard work and determination. This legacy of resilience and resourcefulness shaped Margaret's upbringing, as she learned the value of a strong work ethic in her father's bountiful garden in Pickens County.
With this rich heritage fueling their vision, Margaret and Chuck poured their hearts into creating Buddy's Market. They meticulously planned, collaborated with the Clemson Area Small Business Development Center, and scoured the region for the finest local vendors. Finally, on September 25, 2023, Buddy's Market opened its doors, a testament to Margaret and Chuck's dedication to providing their community with the freshest produce and the warmest hospitality.
Today, Margaret and Chuck's spirit of hard work and dedication lives on in Buddy's Market, where each fruit and vegetable tells a story of tradition and resilience, honoring the legacy of generations past while nurturing the community for generations to come.
